The other week I rode past a group of people sitting on some lawn with this van parked nearby. If I had gone past it on the south side of the city I would have stopped to have a look, but I just rode on thinking it was great that people were using that bit of lawn to meet up with other people.
I used to go out with some of the soup vans and often new volunteers were surprised by how social the van was for many of the people who came down to get food. The street stops were meeting places and an opportunity for a conversation.
This news article interested me primarily because it suggests that the social side is an important part of what this business provides. There are also issues around whether or not the vans should be allowed to operate as a mobile business, but I will leave those for another day.
